My Dubious Relationship with Time

time management problem

Am I sus? Yeah…

It’s not that I overestimate my abilities (as much as I used to…because age has a way of bringing reality into clearer focus😆😝😜), but I underestimate the amount of time things take.

Like travel or commute time…I often forget to figure in traffic or unexpected delays or detours.

Or work projects – gotta expect the unexpected, right? (But how to track that on a Gantt chart or dashboard?)🤔

Maybe it’s estimates vs. actuals that trips me up…because everything can’t be eyeballed. Some things require precision.

So imma keep working on that…

Got any helpful time tips? I welcome ‘em…drop a comment.

Blessings, Kayren

“15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”

Do the Law

Strike out overcompensating

We love the blessings of obedience…but do we consider the judgments for disobedience?

God doesn’t expect us to know everything about everything (thank goodness!).

However, it is important for us to maintain a teachable spirit so we can learn, grow, and be corrected in righteousness.

Because what we don’t know can hurt us.

I believe that wisdom encompasses benefitting from the experiences of others without having to bump our heads on the same obstacles.

Here for it and adjusting daily, Kayren

“25 And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.

26 And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.”

Razor-Thin Margin

It's okay to take a break and rest

Running on fumes? Quit it…

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Time to replenish mind, body, and soul isn’t just a “nice to have.”

It is a necessity. A vital requirement.

Let’s make the adjustment.

Just sharing in love as I’m learning to do different and do better…

Blessings, Kayren

“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”

(Jeremiah 6:16)

“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”

Get the Tiramisu

Self-care is NOT selfish

It was the best ending to a delightful lunch. Honestly, it was rather epic – and I don’t throw that term around lightly.

I’d looked forward to visiting my favorite local Thai restaurant since I scheduled my day off. #MoreHearts

The red curry with shrimp, egg rolls, and egg drop soup were the “tummy hug” I needed after a grueling workweek.

Sure, I could’ve skipped the sweet treat and been satisfied with my lovely and satisfying meal. But I really like tiramisu, and my server said this tiramiau was exquisite.

He didn’t oversell it.😋

The tiramisu was all that, a bag of chips, the crumbs in the bottom of the bag, and then some.💯

After my first bite, I was transported to a spiritual experience.😇 Halfway through, I was boxing it up to finish this delicacy at home in my PJs and fuzzy socks.

Because a dessert like this deserved an audience of one.😜😆

I encourage you to schedule a day to breathe. Soon.

Don’t put it off for weeks. Seriously.

Your body, mind, soul, and spirit will thank you.

Blessings, Kayren

“31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The Leadership Lesson

In process and in progress
Learning when your tests & trials aren’t just for you…

The tempering. Pulverization. Incessant pressure. Repetitive knocks. All leading to and culminating in ultimate restoration.

I hadn’t thought about the challenges of my current season as being part of leadership training. Until now.

But it all makes sense.

The greatest among us must serve.

And a true servant leader has a tender heart after experiencing what they walk others through – because they’re already familiar with the path.

They know the sting of rejection. The frustration of being misunderstood. The loneliness of isolation. The two-sided coin of forgiveness and redemption.

And they don’t despise any part of the lesson, because they understand that it’s all part of the process of being made.

May we continue to endure each lesson until we become leaders who accurately reflect the image of our primary example of selfless servant leadership – Jesus Christ.

In progress & in process, Kayren

“24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.

26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.”

Don’t Get It Twisted

Maturity - making better choices because I can

No time for distractions when on Kingdom assignment…

Stay on your toes when you see God moving and delivering. He does HIS job.💯

Our job is to stay mindful, aware, watchful, and on-guard – because entanglement in the wrong covenant, alliance, or agreement can become a snare to fulfilling your purpose.⚠️

We are soldiers…in the army…

Destroying idolatry requires standing firm against what God hates. The slightest indication of compromise can taint pure worship – and it will be detected by our God Who requires holiness and no traces of mixture or contamination.

Grateful for the sacrifice of those who served…and continue to serve! #MemorialDay #WeRemember

Alert & aware, Kayren

“11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:”

Travelling Light

Expert - sharing expertise

Have you ever overpacked?

Unfortunately, I’m guilty of this more often than I care to admit.

Certainly when I’m preparing for a trip, I find myself with too many PJs (who knows whether I’ll feel like long sleeves or short sleeves? I’d rather just be prepared for whatever…)

As a self-professed lip glossaholic, I should be ashamed to admit that I currently have 10 glosses (at least) in my everyday purse. (how do I know whether I’ll prefer watermelon, strawberry, or coconut…or sparkly shimmer on top of matte red…unless I have ALL the options available when the mood strikes?). Exactly! 💯#UNapologetic

But I’m no stranger to winding up with an accumulation of “stuff” over time that eventually requires attention and action of a necessity.

Since this world is not our home, it makes sense to travel light.

Blessings, Kayren

“13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”

Nice, Neat Boxes

Manage your time

Reality check straight ahead…

Life gets a LOT simpler when we stop trying to define, label, and categorize ourselves and our situations.

Because things are always shifting. So even when we think we’ve figured out one part, another facet shifts.

Therefore, it behooves us to accept some things as they are instead of angsting over what we wish they were.

Most of the time, what we imagine isn’t even part of the true essence – so it’s a ridiculously unrealistic expectation (and hence, a waste of time, energy, and other resources) to even bother considering.

Let’s not waste time on fleeting vanity…

Blessings, Kayren

“8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

I Have THIS Moment

No time like the present - appreciate the gift

We can’t gather and collect time.

But we can appreciate and enjoy it for what it is: the gift of this moment. 🎁

A present IN the present, if you will.

Selah…

Blessings, Kayren

Navigating Maycember

Why did I just learn what Maycember means? I heard a co-worker with tweens use it…then I Googled. 😂

I guess I’ve experienced it for many years, but I just didn’t realize it had a label or it was really a thing. But it is! #RealityCheck

Aside from the fact that my children are in their 20s…but that doesn’t make the flurry of parental support activity any less real or involved.

As a matter of fact, packing up college dorm rooms, supporting internships anywhere on the planet (or not getting the internship waited upon for months) requires a similar level of logistical choreography, emotional support, and parental stamina.

To all who are navigating Maycember, the encouragement is the same: trust God with ALL the details – big, small, and in between.

Our children won’t be children forever! As parents, we are doing a good work…and it’s more than worth the effort.👍🏽

Blessings, Kayren

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.”
