I wanted to grab my mousepad from my bag in another room and do some writing before bedtime. I breezed past the light switch because I knew exactly where I’d put it in the zippered section of my bag.
Then I realized how utterly ridiculous it is to grope around in the dark for something that can easily be located once illuminated.
I backed up and flipped on the light switch. Then I quickly grabbed my BLACK mousepad from my BLACK bag…saving myself time and frustration.
How much time do we spend (or waste) digging around in the dark – when we’re blessed with access to the Light of the world?
Jesus said, “I have come as a Light into the world, so that whoever believes in Me [whoever cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] may not continue to live in darkness.” (John 12:46 AMPC).
May we intentionally choose to abide in light instead of darkness. Selah.

“For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness.”
(II Samuel 22:29)
“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.”
(Isaiah 9:2)
“He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.”
(Daniel 2:22)
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Check out this 4-minute “God is Greater Than GPS” podcast…my first FRESH episode in 2 years!
On this particularly rainy morning, I set out on my usual commute, only to find that the day had more in store for me than just a wet drive. This journey taught me invaluable lessons about trusting God’s guidance.
An Unexpected Report
As I checked my GPS, it warned of obstacles in the road, an accident, and standstill traffic on my regular route. Since I’d missed an exit to turn around, I chose to continue on my set path. To my surprise, the road was clear and traffic was moving steadily, and I was reminded that God’s guidance is dependable, trustworthy, and leads us in the right direction – even when technology suggests otherwise.
A Divine Detour
I was almost at my office building when I encountered a flooded underpass. Watching others turn around, I followed suit, taking an alternate route. Safety was a better choice than attempting to shave off a few minutes. This detour was a gentle nudge for me to remain flexible, adaptable, and malleable in God’s hands – even when the path seems familiar.
A Timely Lesson
While tools like GPS are helpful, never forget that we have a greater Guide Who never fails. As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths.”
