My Best Use for a Stick of Butter…

…all week long – hands down!!! LOL🀣 Look at this absolutely glorious apple crisp, smell the cinnamon wafting through the air, taste that brown sugar…yes, Fall is officially HERE!πŸπŸ‚

Granted, I’ll admit this is a deconstruction of my sugar-free oatmeal breakfast earlier this week, but I figured that this Thursday night deserved a treat like apple crisp, so I went for it! Sooo glad I did…dessert perfection!πŸ˜‹ #NoRegrets #UNapologetic #JudgmentFreeZone #BakedInJoy #AppleEqualsFruit 🍎

Hubby & I polished off 1/3 of this while still hot outta the ovenπŸ˜‹…2 years till empty nest…but who’s counting?πŸ˜―πŸ€”πŸ˜ Ha ha ha!

Happy Fri-YAY, y’all!!!😊πŸ₯³

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings.”

The Power of Improvisation – More or Less

So I’ve been feelin’ pretty crafty lately…and my newest fascination is vinyl wall transfers (better late to the party than never, right?!) LOL

The Frugal Frannie in me couldn’t pass up the “bless our home” sign sporting the big red markdown sticker – OVER 50% off…SCORE! Imagine my horrific chagrin when I discovered – after watching a YouTube tutorial on proper application techniques, following the directions, and being ready to create my amateur masterpiece – the sign in the container did NOT match the package. It said, “less our home.”

In this harvest season, I am focused on setting an atmosphere of abundance and gratitude, so this incomplete sale item posed a philosophical quandary. Determined to make it work, I took the flourish that was to go at the bottom of the phrase, turned it sideways, and posited, “If I can make that curlicue look like the letter B and place it properly, I may be able to pull this off without a comprehension faux pas.”

So whaddya think – did I succeed in making lemonade from the lemons I was handed in that tightly sealed and unpreviewable container?

I think my improvisation is another lovely (& budget-friendly) addition to my Laundry Room spruce-up…works for me!πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸΌ

What little things are bringing you joy this week? I’d love for you to drop me a comment to share…

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Scarcity, Enough, or Plenty?

More than enough…LOL

Am I the only one who knew this amount of peanut butter was MORE than sufficient for (at LEAST) another sandwich?!?🀣 I CAN’T be the only one! LOL

Seriously, in 20 years of marriage, some of my biggest gasps (& protests!) have come from my wonderful hubby throwing out something I still deemed as having potential use. Obviously, I’m the only resident who sees the value (necessity) in scraping the bottom (& sides!) of the peanut butter jar…or has the patience to do so.😜

Too many times in the past, I’ve talked myself outta stuff that I KNOW would add joy & delight because I thought:

🚫 I don’t really NEED it (but it’s reasonable, I work hard to handle my bizness, & it’s a nice treat/reward)

🚫 I can come back & get it later (later never comes)

🚫 I’m being frugal & responsible (TRUTH? I was being CHEAP and dealing with ⚠️TOXIC☒ money mindset emotional baggage & fear of lack)

πŸ”† Today, I choose JOY! Life, peace, delight, and abundance…YES to ALL of that – and then some! GOD is my Provider; He owns the cattle on 1,000 hills – & that’s a LOTTA beef!πŸ„πŸ‚πŸƒπŸ€£

Being frugal with wisdom and good stewardship is a positive quality. But when it becomes restrictive to the point of near-debilitation and you’re not enjoying life, it’s time for some reflection and self-evaluation.πŸ€” IJS…I know from experience!😯 I’m praying for you to embrace and walk in the abundant life Christ died for us to have.πŸ˜‡ Blessings, Kayren

A Permit to Drive Me…

Permit to Drive 9-27

…to walk worthy AND pray without ceasing cuz my “baby” is now driving…#JesusPleaseTakeTheWheel!

I didn’t realize I’d get tested on yesterday’s β€œseason created by prayer” reminder so soon…my daughter drove me home from church for the first time since she got her learner’s permit last week. I didn’t have white knuckles the entire time, but I wasn’t exactly excited about the prospect of her driving me on the highway, either. I worked hard to cast down imaginations of β€œToonces the Driving Cat” SNL skits. Parents of teenage drivers, holla if ya hear me!

Nevertheless, we train our children for the purpose of growth and maturity. We don’t want them to stay in the same stage of development without forward progress, so why are we surprised when these types of β€œmilestone moments” occur? She has to log 60 hours of practice with a licensed driver over the next few months before receiving her license to drive solo. (Why my wonderful hubby volunteered me to accompany her first reminded me of how he was conspicuously busy every time there was a loose tooth to be pulled…IJS, but I’m gonna let that go – again!). So this was the first of MANY opportunities for her to practice smoothing out her lane changes and not riding the white line. Truth be told, she did a very good job. And I think I did, too.Β

The experience of being the passenger of a fresh student driver took me to another level of trust – in the Lord, in my child, and in what I’ve taught her. I certainly hope she emulates more of the POSITIVE driving habits she’s seen me display. Let us receive this important reminder to walk worthy because we are leaving footprints that others will follow. And let’s make sure we present (with prayerfulness!) a consistent, godly example worth following.

β€œ9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;”

(Colossians 1:9-11)

Likeminded and On One Accord

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

My wonderful hubby is a consummate coffee drinker – with one caveat: he must have his sugar-free creamer. I found a hazelnut-flavored one that he likes; since he was down to his last drop, I decided to swing by the store after my nail appointment and grab some more creamer for him. Yes, even in the rain and separate from my regular weekend grocery run – because that’s what love does, right? πŸ™‚

I also grabbed some of his favorite cinnamon-raisin mini-bagels and sugar-free seltzers. As I got into the check-out line, who did I see rolling up behind me? None other than my handsome, freshly clean-shaven husband – armed with those same items I had in my hands (plus a few extra snacks) – who had decided to stop by the SAME STORE after his haircut. It was SO funny! After 20 years of marriage, we are (finally) thinking alike! I am grateful for God’s mercy as He continues the process of making us one IN HIM…

β€œTherefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
(Genesis 2:24)

β€œFulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”
(Philippians 2:2 KJV)

β€œMake my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love [toward one another], knit together in spirit, intent on one purpose [and living a life that reflects your faith and spreads the gospelβ€”the good news regarding salvation through faith in Christ].”
(Philippians 2:2 AMP)

Have you ever walked into a Walmart knowing that the power of the Holy Spirit would overshadow you on Aisle G13? Me neither – but that’s exactly what happened today when a gentleman asked me if I knew where the toddler toothbrushes were. I laughed that my β€œtoddlers” were now teenagers, but offered to help him look for the specific item.

Turns out he was getting it for an octogenarian neighbor, and an adult soft toothbrush just wouldn’t do. I looked for Hello Kitty and the other usual suspects in children’s dental gear, to no avail. I summoned a nearby employee and she directed us to the other side of the aisle a few feet down (not intuitive)…and he found exactly what he needed.

As he put the toddler toothbrush into his basket, I said cheerily, β€œYou know, this pandemic is such a reminder that we really need each other!” He blurted, β€œI’m all alone; my wife just died and I don’t know what I’m gonna do; I don’t know how I’m gonna make it!” I certainly didn’t expect that impassioned outburst before adding deodorant to my own basket, but I immediately began to pray aloud for his comfort, peace, and strength. This gentleman was obviously heartbroken and tears filled his eyes as he told me about losing his wife of 46 years a few months ago. Recently bereaved of my beloved godmother who valiantly battled dementia for years, my heart was tender and open. In that very moment, NOTHING on my shopping list was more important than pouring oil on the open wound of this fellow child of God.

We talked for at least 15 minutes as I encouraged him to connect with other believers instead of continuing his stoic attempts to process through his grief in isolation. I shared the powerful resource of GriefShare.org with him and invited him to connect with my church as well. He said, β€œThank you; I wish I could hug you,” and I said, β€œWell we’re gonna do a socially-distanced hug in Jesus’ name,” as I put my arm on his arm.

I’m honored God chose ME today to be His hands and feet to remind this precious man that his Creator loves him immensely and has not forgotten about him. And I’m grateful that I heeded God’s leading to come to THIS particular store (instead of my usual Walmart closer to my house) at this precise time of day to fulfill this divine assignment.

I thought I came to purchase a tea infuser (after a dear friend blessed me with a loose leaf tea set and I realized I’d need a strainer). I found the tea infuser, then meandered from Home Goods to Health & Beauty to grab some toothpaste. And there, the knock of opportunity connected with my gift of encouragement. I’m so grateful I wasn’t too busy to answer the Father’s call! I encourage you to keep your ears attuned this week as God summons you to work in His vineyard, fulfilling an assignment custom-tailored to fit you…

β€œ10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.”
(Romans 12:10-16)

Vitamins + Cookies

Kayren-Tine Comic Strip 02.18.2021

This one needs no introduction…just share in the comments if you’ve ever reasoned using a pattern like this before! LOLΒ

It’s like starting the day off riding the indoor bike because it’s too rainy to walk outside, and then advancing to a healthy breakfast…only to end up with ice cream at bedtime (for example…so I’ve been told…by someone else – ha ha!). Almost cancels out the positive effect of the exercise, eh?

Sometimes we try to justify our nonsense when we truly know better. How many times do we get caught up in foolishness, only to find ourselves at the feet of a loving Savior who is ready to forgive us once again? Oh, what grace, love, and mercy!Β

May we extend the same to others…(and ourselves, too)…

β€œ10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.”
(John 8:10-11)

Home Cookin’ in Quarantine

Kayren-Tine Comic Strip 02.11.2021

When I wrote about An Ounce of Prevention 10 months ago, I didn’t imagine that the act of baking could be so hazardous to my hips! LOLΒ

Nevertheless, as quarantine continues (and many more homemade lemon-glazed sour cream pound cakes later than I care to admit), I find myself challenged to increase my physical activity and decrease my caloric intake…how about you? Apparently, creating domestic culinary adventures (1. Without leaving my home, PLUS 2. Keeping a minimum of 2 sticks of butter on hand – in the vegetable drawer, no less…for SHAME! <gasp!>) can become a cumulative experience. Who knew?! Oh, I knew…Β

I’m thankful to have a couple of neighbors who literally keep me β€œon my toes” – texting me regularly to make sure I lace up my tennis shoes a few times a week and hit the pavement for some cardio. Accountability counts…stay encouraged and stay connected, my friends – we have MUCH to be grateful for! Love is all around – and not just in the Valentine’s season…call someone today and make their day. You just might save them from that extra bite of pound cake they were wrestling with…or they may offer to share with you!

β€œA friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
(Proverbs 17:17)

β€œA man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
(Proverbs 18:24)
